Cleaning tips and Natural Alternatives
Hardwood floors
Regular washing can be too much for hardwood. Try vacuuming and spot cleaning them. Only wash them when it is really necessary.
If you ran out of wood floor cleaner a natural alternative would be to use regular tea bags. Three to four should do it in a bucket of hot water. The acid in the tea will gently do the cleaning.
Ceramic tile and vinyl floors
Washing floors by hand using vinegar and water will scrub them clean.
Feather dusters
Feather dusters, if used properly can be helpful. Buy a good duster with natural feathers, not a plastic one. For intermittent cleaning they are great. When the duster is pushing dust around and not picking it up, the duster is full. Take it outside and shake it out.
Furniture polish
If you run out of your favorite polish take a soft cloth, dampen it with water and wring it out well. Wipe and dry with another cloth. Your furniture will love you!
Stainless Steel
If you are in a pinch and ran out of your favorite cleaner put a small amount of olive oil on a soft towel and wipe away the finger prints. You can also use liquid soap and water too. You will need to dry it with another soft cloth for the same results.
Vinegar as a general cleaner
Some people are allergic to harsh chemicals. Vinegar is a natural alternative. Use an empty spray bottle to mix your own supply. Half vinegar and half water shake well. You can use full strength if you need to. Spray on plastic or ceramic tile showers and doors, wipe and rinse.
You can use this solution to pick up spills off your floors and clean mirrors and glass. This does not work on natural stone so make sure you only use it where it is safe.
If you don ’t like the smell try apple cider vinegar.
Scrubbing action
There are a few natural cleaners but I would recommend bon-ami for ceramic showers, shower doors, and sinks. There is no harsh smell and no harsh abrasive.
